How to Get the Most Out of Your Appliances Series: Washer and Dryer

Thomas S.

This is the first blog in a series that we’re calling “How to get the most out of your appliances.” In this series, we’re going to tell you how to keep your appliances running optimally for as long as possible. You’ll get the most bang for your buck when you follow these home appliance tips.

For this first blog, we’re focusing in on your washer and dryer. This duo keeps your family in clean clothes every day. While many of us joke about “Mount Laundry” – that horrible bump of dirty clothes that seems to grow every day, no matter how many loads we do – our washers and dryers are key parts of our homes.

What happens when your washer or dryer stops working well – or worse, stops working at all? Imagine having to schlep all your dirty, stinky laundry to the laundry mat once or twice a week. You’d have to spend hours there, hanging out, wishing you were at home relaxing or literally doing anything else with your time.

Plus, have you been to a laundry mat recently? They’re actually pretty darn expensive now. Gone are the days when you could empty the coins from your pockets and be able to pay for a couple loads. No – many laundry mats charge $1.50 or $2 just for the wash, and depending on how much time you need the dryer for, the amount of money you’ll have to put in varies from $2-$5. It’s ridiculous!

Thankfully, there’s no need for you to go to the laundry mat. If your washer or dryer starts malfunctioning in any way, just call Authorized Appliance! We can often accommodate requests for same-day service, so we’ll have your washer and dryer back to tip-top shape ASAP. If you don’t have a pressing repair need, let’s get to the question at hand: how can you get the most out of your washer and dryer?

One of the best ways to keep your washer and dryer in excellent shape is by following this common-sense tip:

Wipe it down every once in awhile.

While your washer seems to be cleaned every time you run a cycle, it actually isn’t. Residue and moisture are often left behind, which can turn into smelly mold. Keep your clothes smelling fresh and your washer in great shape by wiping it down every once in awhile. And if you notice an unpleasant odor, run a cycle with just a half cup of vinegar and a cup of baking soda (no clothes). This will neutralize the odors and kill the bacteria and/or mold right away. And always make sure you leave the door open after running a cycle so the excess moisture can evaporate. Likewise, wipe down your dryer every once in awhile. If you notice a bad odor, wipe it down with vinegar and water, then leave it to air out.

Don’t let small problems turn into bigger ones
