This is actually a more common issue than you might guess. Understanding Why There is a Smell in the First Place

You may wonder: Why does my washing machine have this smell? The truth is that though the drain gets rid of most of the hair, dirt, soapsuds, and grime, some will remain behind. If you use too much detergent when you wash then you can actually end up with a dirtier washing machine because of the excess suds.

Once you are done with a load and close the door, remember that your washer is inherently warm and moist, which is the perfect environment for mold and mildew to develop. This can cause a smell that gest worse over time. There could be mold and mildew within the filter, walls, and gasket of your front loading washing machine.

Start by Running the Self-Clean Cycle

If you notice a moldy smell, simply cleaning out the interior of the washtub could be enough to get rid of that smell. Luckily most Samsung front loading machines come with a self-clean cycle that may fix the issue for you.

Before you start it, make sure that the tub is entirely empty and dry. Fill up the detergent compartment with bleach, close the door, and select the self-clean option. Press start and wait for the one to four hours the cycle will take to complete. Then wipe down the tub to get rid of any residue. Then leave the door open so that it can fully air dry.

Clean the Washer Pump Filter

Your washer has a pump filter that is supposed to screen out debris to assure that it does not clog up the drain. If it smells bad, cleaning out this filter can help. There is a cover on the bottom of your washer. It should be on the right side in the front of your washer. Press that cover and it will open. Put down a towel and something to catch drips from the house.

Then take off the drain hose camp and let water drain out of it. Take out the pump filter by twisting it and use a toothbrush to scrub away any debris that is stuck on it. Then put the filter back in, put the drain hose cap back on, and close up the access panel.
